Centre History

Opened on 25th October 1990 by Princess Alexandra, Marcus Bradford and Angus Ogilvy, Lakeside Shopping Centre - together with the adjoining Retail Park - forms one of the largest shopping areas in Europe.

Built on the site of a former chalk quarry, Lakeside acted as a catalyst for development in the local area. The regional shopping centre quickly became a success, attracting high profile stores and plenty of shoppers.

Lakeside underwent a major refurbishment in 2005 which saw the centre transformed into a lighter, airier place to shop. The Boardwalk, opened in 2007, introduced a waterfront leisure area offering, with a host of restaurants, a revolutionary new concept Vue cinema and a play centre.

Lakeside is part of the Capital Shopping Centres portfolio which also includes MetroCentre, Braehead, The Harlequin and The Arndale.
